STGCC sets off on an exhilarating pop culture expedition

Singapore, 31 August 2013 – The Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC)has swung upon the shores with a splash of pop culture coolness and heavyweight offerings. Taking place over the weekend of 31 August and 1 September at the Sands Exhibition and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, this year’s STGCC boasts a power-packed line-up from exhibitors to pop culture personalities alike.
With over 180 exhibitors, this year’s STGCC is expected to attract massive crowds of 38,000 local and regional fans over the weekend. Fans will be delighted with near 120 exclusive pop culture offerings from headline exhibitors such as entertainment giant Disney, premium toy figurine companies Hot Toys and ENTERBAY, and famous game developer NAMCO BANDAI.
Not only are the 24 notable personalities from both Eastern and Western pop culture scenes here to meet and greet fans, but some of them have brought their very own crafts to STGCC. Simone Legno, inventor of the much raved tokidoki brand, has brought in a limited edition vinyl unicorno which was first launched at the San Diego Comic Con 2013. David Mack, famed for his Daredevil and KABUKI, has brought in his newest Neil Gaiman print and original art pages from his highly-acclaimed works. From the East, illustrator and designer redjuice will arrive armed with his most popular art books. Get your collectibles autographed by the creators themselves at STGCC!
Be dazzled by the interactive exhibition booths and exclusive show screenings on the show floor. Don’t forget to snap photos of the spectacular display of the Hall of Armor and holographic display showcases, which recreate the movie setting from this year’s blockbuster Iron Man III.
World-class Personalities and New Faces at STGCC 2013
Meet Marvel Comics’ artist Adi Granov, the designer behind Iron Man’s trademark red and gold armour on the silver screens, who will be making his first appearance in STGCC this year. Joining him is Joe Madureira, or Joe MAD to fans, another Marvel Comics artist who will grace this year’s event for the first time.
New faces on the block include Hideo Baba, game producer of the widely successful J-RPG franchise- the “Tales of” series, Nathan Hamill from Bongo comics (publisher of The Simpsons comic series) and renowned toy designers Angry Woebots, Jesse Yu aka J★RYU and Luke Chueh, all hail from the Army of Snipers. Fan favourite DEVILROBOTS is returning to STGCC to enthrall fans as well.

Brand-new Toys and Exclusive Collectibles for Fans of all ages
Collectors looking to add to their collection of limited edition figurines will be able to find their loot over at Hot Toys, with four immensely intricate 1/6th scale figurines of Captain America (Star Spangled Man Version) [The First Avenger], Joe Colton [G.I. Joe Retaliation], Superman (Evil Version) [Superman III], and the Iron Man 3: Midas (Mark XXI).
ENTERBAY will be launching their exclusive NBA collection only at STGCC 2013. Wellknown for their stunningly faithful replicas, ENTERBAY will also be showcasing Bruce Lee, Batman and Terminator 2 Battle Damaged figurines. And the list goes on.
Looking for kids’ toys? Watch out for the cute Build-A-Minion set, Despicable Me 2 Minions Monopoly and micro-sized Nanoblock, all available at the Rapid Culture booth. Those who can’t get enough of the Hello Kitty craze can check out the Hello Kitty Ugly Doll collection at Natures Collection’s booth.

Event highlights not to be missed at STGCC 2013
- Cosplay Runway
Immerse yourself in the fantasy world of movies, comics, anime and games as 50 cosplayers strut down the Cosplay Runway in their titillating costumes. Look out for star cosplayers Vampy Bit Me and Aza, who will be making their debut appearance in Singapore at this year’s STGCC.
- DJ Night
Prepare to rock the house down with DJ kz (livetune) and DJ Yuyoyuppe from Japan! With a stage full of surprises for Singapore’s fans, indulge in a feast of remixes of Vocaloid, Game, Pop Music, Touhou and Anisong specially prepared by the DJs.
- TAM’s Violin Live
Catch TAM on stage as he will be serenading spectators with uniquely refreshing renditions of tunes from anime and games on a classical violin.
- STGCC Photo Booth
Studio Me, Singapore’s first Green Screen Self-Shoot photo studio, has designed three exclusive themes for the pop culture fans! Come forward and become Joker, the highly intelligent master criminal, or a Superhero who saves the world. There will also be an exclusive STGCC theme available for fans. Let you imagination run wild at the photo booth!
- One Piece Film Z Movie Screening
Watch the 12th feature film based on the manga series One Piece by Eiichiro Oda at STGCC 2013, and cheer Luffy on as he battles Zephyr, the most powerful enemy yet, together with his crew. Come down to STGCC 2013 to catch a movie screening of One Piece Film Z.
Spotlight on Asia’s Rising Stars
Artist Alley, a special segment of STGCC that highlights rising talent in the Southeast Asia, sees a total of 131 participants this year. With an increment of close to 40 from last year, these talents will showcase their pop culture creations on the show floor.
Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) is also partnering STGCC for the first time as the official training partner. The partnership aims to raise the importance of training and upgrading of skillsets in the Games and Animation industry, such as Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications training by WDA appointed training partners.
STGCC is open to the public on 31 August and 1 September 2013. Tickets are priced at $19 for a one-day pass and $25 for a two-day pass, available for sale at the event itself.
